Camp's over. New Section Leader is up. Secondary 4s/5s are stepping down.
I'm sure we had a lot of fun during camp, and we had learned something, in one way or another, during this camp.
Here's a new skin because the previous one screwed up, and yeah.
The photo's very outdated? Though it was only taken last year.. (Sorry that's the lastest section photo I can find) Can we have a new one?

(Sort of) Section Outing on the 6th March 2010!
Our first section outing ever since...the one at AMK Hub when we watched the Hannah Montana movie. Last year.

So we should organise more section outings!

Anyway, practice your 'Danse Folatre', 'Peterloo Overture', your ensemble pieces, advanced etudes, and your 12 scales from SBT!

Addiction III is over like almost one month ago! Thanks Zhen Jun, Miss Jama, Edeline and Siang Yee for the horn choir! :D

Band's resuming in two days, so I hope that you guys aren't losing touch. And also hope that you guys memorised Whistle While You Work and Jap Graffiti!

Anyway, I'm currently designing the section tee. Soooo, do expect a section tee coming out soon! And prepare the ka-ching $$$ for the t-shirts. (:

Yeah, dead blog huh.
Here are all the titles of the Horn compile which I'm going to pass to you guys tomorrow. I've tried oh-so-many times cropping and resizing the scanned one, but when I print it out it's either too big or too small. -.-
And so. I gave up. Haha.
Happy listening, because they're like awesome! Thanks Mr Lim! (If you ever see this..haha.)

(Btw I didn't scan the artists and albums, but if you want it you can ask me and I'll re-scan.)

So section outing was.....un-plan-able. So next time, yea?

Band resumes this Saturday, 1st August. 7.30am fall in. Wear PE attire, and bring water bottle.
Note that we're not playing for NDP anymore. So let's practice hard for Second Suite in F and Lord, Guard and Guide! There isn't much time to lose.

How do you all find the new skin? I think it's pretty cool, in a way. (:
Test is over, and our results are unknown. As our newly appointed SL said, those who failed gotta treat everyone in horn section ice-cream, including Sec 1s. We had all done our test and we can't cry over split milk. We'll see how many ice-cream treats we'll get eh. Hope we won't get ice-cream treats from anyone, though.

Congrats on getting GOLD!

(Omg, long post ha.)
Like wow, our section has improved and grown so much over the months! Looking back all the way to SIBF 08, we didn't sound good. At all. And then when we first got Jacob's in Jan, we couldn't play the solis well. And then there was the time when Zhi Guo chided us off.
But look at us now! Though we still have some problems here and there, but I'm really happy that we had worked hard to come this far and I believe that our hard work has not been in vain.
I'm still very high and happy la! Not enitrely on the fact that we got gold. What I'm truly happy about is that the improvments and determination each of us individual has made, thus making this wonderful and awesome horn section and making us what we are today, a gold band.
However, what we got gold was that 15 minutes on stage, which is already over. What's more important now is the present and the future of HSWS.

Congratulations to Regent for getting GOLD, Shuqun and Pierce for getting SILVER!
Don't slacken because SYF is over, because there's CA2 next week! STUDY HARD, Mr Lim said that he doesn't want any of us to fail exams!

(Remember to thank the people who had supported and guided us along the way! Zhiguo, Miss Jama, Mr Lim and alumni!)

March Camp!

Next week is school holiday! (Sadly, not school holiday to us huh.)
As you all know, we'll be having a March combined band camp, together with Regent and Shuqun. :D
Date: 18-20 March, Wednesday-Friday.
Friday we'll be having exchange in our school, and on Saturday we have an exchange at Ang Mo Kio.
Prepare yourself physically and mentally for this camp, because we'll be spending a whole lot of time practicing! And also do expect to learn a lot from this camp, and that's probably this camp's purpose.

SYF is not near, in fact it's coming real soon!
Practice hard! We can do it one! :D

Since this blog is dead, I shall post to show that this blog is alive.
LOL.
Anyway it's not good/happy thing that I'm about to post about. (I think by saying this, I'm sure that you all should know what I'm posting about.)
Whatever Zhi Guo said yesterday and last Saturday, was really true. He really speaked my mind out. It's okay if you don't improve drastically, we just need to see that you practiced, you had tried your best. If you practiced but you still can't get it right, we'll understand. Personally, I want to see the diligence and perseverance that you all have. But, I don't see it. If you say that you all don't have the time, how about us? Sec3, Sec4. We have more lessons than you, we have more (difficult) subjects to cope. We even got Triple Science students in our section, but they still practiced. So why can't you?
It's no use getting angry with you all. Because it's no use. Even Zhi Guo got angry with you all but you guys didn't go anything about it.
I'm not scolding you all or whatsoever. After beating around the bush, I just want to stress out this. I, and I think the rest of us, really hope that you all will improve. That's all I can, and want to say. I do hope that what Zhi Guo said before he carried on with the lesson yesterday woke you guys up.

Anyway.
We had got our choice and set piece already, let's all jiayou! Practice whatever Zhi Guo asked you all to practice, too.
Though we don't have any seniors who took 'O' Levels last year in our section. But still, good luck tomorrow!

Outing at JianCheng's house was awesome eh? :D
To not leave out the juniors, let's have our own section outing! How's that?
In the meantime. Tutor had given homework to all of us, so please do your homework okay. All the etudes and stuff.
So we know each other's weaknesses and good points towards our playing. So learn from the people you need to learn to (embouchure, tounging etc) and correct people if they still play the incorrect way!
It all takes time yeah. (: So never give up on yourselves! Especially to the people who are changing their embouchure. :D

There's going to be a concert on the 20th Nov, 7:30pm at VCH.
It will be a combined concert, Ignited, played by Hougang, Regent & ShuQun.
Both juniors and seniors must work hard for that day oh.

For those who are in the combined band, please practise extra harder.
As what Jerrick had said during the band meeting, those who are picked have to put in more effort than those who aren't picked.
Of course, those who aren't picked must also work hard lah.
Cannot because of you're not picked, then start to slack off.

*You are strongly encouraged to invite your parents to come to watch you at the concert.
As for the Sec 1s, it's your first concert so just pull them along. (: *

As we are all in the midst of preparing for our exams, let's not forget to keep in touch with our instruments!

So please practice the songs, and also the etudes from Tone and Techinque(?) and Symphonic Band Techinque!

don't be afraid that you play the wrong notes, just play out.

so please work harder and improve yourself more.
show mr lim that our section is the best among all even we don't have any tutors.

Silver, is what we got for yesterday's SIBF.
2nd in position, is what we got for SIBF.

Though we got silver, it does not mean that we can slack.
To me, I was really shocked when I heard that we got a silver. Because we didn't play that well. Agreed?
So what we got a silver?
We know what the band standard is, we know how good or how bad we play.
Just like what Mr Lim has said, from today onwards, start practicing hard.
Now I think we're going back to the basics.

The basics,
They are simple yet difficult things to master.

Competition's over. Now let's work hard for SYF'09!
We got to start preparing ourselves for SYF already.
Okay that's a long term goal.
For now, work hard for NDP, which is only two weeks away.
Let's work hard together, with our lovely juniors!

Chorale and shaker dance

At 6th bar from the beginning play the articulation written on the scores and use Bb horn fingering.
B-Play broadly and do not decresendo too fast during the pause.Every chrochet must have the same value and do not drag.
2nd bar of E please count and look at mrlim to come in correctly and do not rush at the quarvers.
At 5th bar of G do not hold the note before the marcato quaver too long if not you all will be late. Look at mrlim at 3bar before H.
7th bar of H tenuto for everything
3rd bar of I Accent every note inorder to mark the beat.
For the stop horn part only YongYou and Winsome will play.Use the Fhorn fingering for that part.
M- Play the articulation written on the scores and do cresendo from F to FF but do not overplay.
9 bar before O all horns will play for the first set of triplets and for the second set only Fhorn1&2 will play and the last set change to one person.
At 5 bar of R horn soli please play a nicer tone do not crack the sound, At S play at 25% of the band sound do not try to overpower the trumpets and clarinet
At T play softer give way to the trumpets for the melody.
8 bars before W play at F do not crack the sound play in harmony with other brasses.
W to the end same idea do not overplay and play in harmony with the band.

AIRS for Wind Orchestra

At A-Seperate the notes and copy the intonation of clarinets how they play their melody.
One bar before B F change to mf and cresendo to B. Fhorn 1& 3 bring out the quarvers at 3rd bar of B and beware of the tie quaver.
5th bar of C play like strings, short and light and look at Mrlim for the rit. and tongue every entry of the quaver frm 7 bar of C.
At D play like how you play at A but volume at F.
Give a nice and broad tone at E for your chrochet.
At H only Fhorn 1,2&3 play
At I Fhorn 1& 3 express the quarvers in a more melodic way.Do all the Dynamics written on the scores.
At K same thing at D.
At 4 bar of 5/8 bar please look at Mrlim he will conduct in 3 and come in after the 2 that he will conduct do not sneak in.
At M Broad sound for the chrochet and the Note D from the last bar please use trigger 3.

Posture is really important too!
If one holds up his/her horn while playing, the rest must follow too! Like what Mr Lim said, because we are all using different horns, which is already 'dangerous'. If we don't hold our horns in the same way, it'll be worse!
Sit up straight, and sit half a chair.
Hand must be STRAIGHT!
Yes, those are all the basics. But there's still someone who is not doing it uh.

And as for juniors.
Work hard for your upcoming concert! (Heard there's one.)
And PLEASE don't be so foolish to slit your wrists!
